Woodstock 50 & Jimi Hendrix

The summer months are associated with barbecues, beach vacations, and road trips. Oh yes, and music festivals too! There is Coachella, Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Glastonbury, Governors Ball, Woodstock 50, Outside Lands, and so many more. Check out that great shot of Outside Lands in San Francisco.

All this music has me thinking of some of the greatest musicians of all time who made history at a summer music festival. Who can forget Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock back in the summer of ‘69? There’s Jimi below at that epic event…

What you might not know about Jimi Hendrix is that he died a sudden death at the young age of 27 and had no Will. What followed was a mess for all those involved. An attorney was in charge of his estate for 20 years until Hendrix’s father filed a lawsuit for control in 1990. After five long years Al Hendrix prevailed, however when Al died, another battle cropped up between Al’s adoptive daughter and Jimi’s brother. Sadly, the brother lost the fight due to drug addiction problems.

The media always reports on the estate planning woes of the rich and famous, but what about people like you and me who don’t make the press? Well, here is what is going on with most Americans. Sixty percent of Americans have NO Estate Plan. For those who do have a Will and Trust in place, much of that planning might be outdated due to changes in law and people’s evolving lives.

One of the big negatives of not having a plan in place is PROBATE. So let me ask you a question. Do you know what Probate is? Do you know what actually happens in a Probate?

If you don’t know the answer, then you are not alone. Most of us have a hard time explaining what exactly Probate is all about and how it impacts us. Not to worry. I have a fantastic video that reveals the nitty gritty of Probate. I sat down with my colleague and expert attorney, Brian Chou, to pull the curtain on the Probate process. You can watch that video below.
